NEWS UPDATE; Ugandan Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi is the most conversational world leader on Twitter, according to a survey. The annual global study of world leaders on Twitter dubbed Twiplomacy, conducted by Burson-Marsteller, a leading global public relations and communications firm, indicates that 95 per cent of Mr Mbabazi’s tweets are replies to other Twitter users. Yesterday Mr Mbabazi had 33,268 followers on his hashtag @AmamaMbabazi. The study also revealed that Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta (@UKenyatta) is Africa’s most-followed president, with 456,209 followers, ahead of Rwanda’s Paul Kagame (@PaulKagame) and South Africa’s Jacob Zuma (@SAPresident). The main objective of the study was to identify the extent to which world leaders use Twitter and how they connect on the social network. The study analyzed 643 government accounts in 161 countries. Only 32 countries, mainly in Africa and Asia-Pacific, do not have any Twitter presence. According to the study, 83 per cent of all UN member states governments have a presence on Twitter, and two-thirds (68 per cent) of all heads of state and governments have personal Twitter accounts.
