NHC has upgraded Bertha to a hurricane as of 11 a.m. EDT. Its the second hurricane of the 2014 Atlantic season. Maximum sustained winds are 80 mph, a Category 1 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Little change in strength during the next 24 hours is forecast, but weakening is expected to begin by late Tuesday. Bertha is centered about 230 miles east-northeast of Great Abaco Island and will continue to move away from the Bahamas today and pass between the U.S. East Coast and Bermuda on Tuesday.
