NHC is issuing advisories on newly formed Tropical Storm Hanna. The system formed from the remnants of Tropical Depression Nine, and is centered as of 9 a.m. EDT just off the coast of Nicaragua about 35 miles north-northeast of Puerto Cabezas, Nicaragua. Hanna is moving toward the west-southwest and, on the forecast track, will move inland along the northeastern coast of Nicaragua by this afternoon. Maximum sustained winds are 40 mph. Little change in strength is expected before landfall, then weakening will take place after that. Hanna is forecast to dissipate over land on Tuesday. The government of Honduras and Nicaragua has issued a Tropical Storm Warning from Punta Patuca, Honduras, southward to Puerto Cabezas, Nicaragua. Tropical storm conditions are expected within the warning area through this evening. Total rainfall accumulations of 10 to 12 inches - with isolated amounts of 15 inches - are expected across Honduras and northern Nicaragua, producing life-threatening flash floods and mudslides.
