NHIA Workers Threaten Strike over poor working conditions Workers of National Health Insurance Authority across the country are likely to declare a strike in the coming days over poor conditions of service. Senior staff members say all attempts to negotiate with management have failed. Luv FM’s Erastus Asare Donkor who has been following the story reported the workers as saying that government has introduced a biometric system with no logistics to work with and that explains the many queues that have been forming at the various National Health Insurance Offices. He said that the staff have been working overtime with no compensation and with no idea when the 2014 salaries would be adjusted. Several calls for negotiations have fallen on deaf ears, the workers lament. The workers were to declare a strike on Monday but after a meeting with National Executive Council a letter was rather produced to their mother union-UNIGOV to lead the struggle. Erastus Asare Donkor intercepted the letter which in part read: “With reference to management letter to UNIGOV of 7th October 2014 on the subject of payment of the cost of living allowance to staff and our response dated 13 October and the failure of management to pay the cost of living allowance as proposed and other matters, we have two months to the end of the year and workers cannot bear the economic hardships in the country and they are incensed.” The workers are therefore asking the union to quickly take action or they will be forced to proceed on strike.
