NHS bickering threatens to block reforms Bickering among NHS managers threatens to block the crucial reforms that the health service needs to survive, finance chiefs have warned. Hospital bosses are too concerned about their own budgets to make the changes that would benefit local patients and need to accept a sense of wider responsibility, according to the body which represents NHS finance directors. The government’s NHS reforms have created a leadership “vacuum”, with no local organisation able to impose its will among organisations which often do not trust each other enough to co-operate voluntarily, the Healthcare Financial Management Association says. Last week Simon Stevens, chief executive of NHS England, laid out his vision for the future of the health service, saying that the barriers between hospitals, GPs, mental health and other community services had to be broken down to join up care for patients. He said it was crucial that local health chiefs lead these changes, as they knew best what would work in their areas and a “one size fits all” model would fail. thetimes.co.uk/tto/health/news/article4248910.ece
