NIGERIA A USELESS COUNTRY? Those of you Nigerians that are eager to call Nigeria a useless country should be mindful that calling Nigeria names is synonymous with calling yourselves names whether you like, believe it or not. Sorry! It is the hurtful truth! This reality dawned on me when one day out of anger and frustration with my awful experiences with government officials I exclaimed this damn country is too hostile towards even we the hardworking youths and diasporas who visit or return home to contribute our talents and my mum retorted we are all damned baby, if Nigeria is damned! She was right I thought, and from that very moment I began to caution that awful attitude. I realized that I dont want to be damned and so if I dont want to be damned, then I must assure my country is not damned! I am saying that if Nigeria is useless to you that means you are as useless as the country because you are a Nigerian, in spite of where you reside or naturalize. Yes Nigeria is only but a geographical location and the citizens are the entity that gives significance to Nigeria, so if you refer the country as godforsaken, then you are actually saying the citizens are godforsaken. It is rather beneficial and healthier for us to see more of our great qualities as a nation and when we are confronted with the awful parts of our system, it is okay to be irritated but be cautioned of our reaction so that we do not compound issues by spewing curses and generating more negativity. This in fact is a healthy principle that will unconsciously aide our decisions to taking healthy steps towards self development and nation building
