NLC appoints Ozo-Eson substantive GS.#Economy The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has finally appointed a substantive General Secretary in the person of Dr Peter Ozo-Eson. Dr Ozo-Eson was until his appointment the Chief Economist and Head of Research Department of the congress. The new General Secretary emerged after a thorough interview conducted by the congress. A communique issued at the end of NLC National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Enugu said the NEC-in-session “announced the appointment of a substantive General Secretary in the person of Dr Peter Ozo-Eson, who, until his appointment, was the Chief Economist and Head of Research Department of the Congress. “The NEC-in-session informed that the next Delegates Conference of the Nigeria Labour Conference would take place in Abuja from February 9-12, 2015.” The NEC-in-session noted the outbreak of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in the country and the panic and havoc it continues to wreak, and commended the Federal Government for the proactive measures it has taken. It also urged the government to do all that is necessary to secure the entire populace while creating the utmost work-place safety for the exposed Health Care personnel battling to control its spread. The NEC-in-session also call on employers of Labour to maintain a group life assurance policy for their employees with a minimum benefit of three times total emolument in line with the provisions of the Pension Reform Act 2014, Section 4 (5); The NEC-in-Session noted with concern the delay by government in implementing the 33.3 per cent increase in pension payment approved by stakeholders and vowed to secure its implementation.
