NMU’s Award for Global Ambassadors Scholarship for high-achieving international students The NMU Award for Global Ambassadors is automatically available to academically-talented, undergraduate, international students who are willing to be actively engaged in cultural sharing and community service activities on the NMU campus and in the local community. This award replaces both the International Academic Award and the Transfer International Academic Award. Eligibility & Award Criteria: • Must hold a valid U.S. student visa and be in status • Must be enrolled full-time in an NMU undergraduate degree program • Given to new NMU international students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher(U.S. equivalent) o For incoming freshmen, a cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 or higher is required o For incoming transfer students with fewer than 12 credit hours, a cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 or higher is required o For incoming transfer students with 12 or more credit hours, a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher from the previous institution of higher education is required • International students who matriculate to NMU in Fall 2013 or later, who did not initially qualify for the NMU’s Award for Global Ambassadors, are eligible for the award if their NMU cumulative GPA reaches 3.0 or higher • New freshmen international students can receive the award for a maximum of 8 semesters • New transfer students, and currently enrolled NMU students who become eligible for the award, can receive the award for a maximum of 6 semesters • Fall & Winter semester awards will be $2,200 each • Summer semester awards will be $1,000 each • Award winners are expected to participate in intercultural sharing and/or service activities Renewal: • Must maintain a cumulative NMU GPA of 3.0 or higher • Must maintain lawful immigration status according to the guidelines set by the Department of Homeland Security and Northern Michigan University • Must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress policy requirements (see nmu.edu/financialaid/node/4) • NMU’s International Programs Office is responsible for verifying all renewal criteria For further information, please contact: Office of International Program 145 Whitman Hall +1-906-227-2510 – voice +1-906-227-2533 – fax [email protected] - email
