NO DIVIDENDS OF DEMOCRACY IN KOGI STATE A dividend is a derivation from something through the utilisation of some available means. It could be some gain or even share of some sort, generally something beneficial. 14 years after the rebirth of democracy we should analyse our polity and assess how the birth of democracy has benefited the masses in Kogi state. Undoubtedly it has benefited a ‘privileged’ few, but this is about democracy and its collective and not selective benefits. We the people of Kogi State have decry lack of dividends of democracy in the state, we are yet to see or feel any democracy dividends in Kogi since the inception of it in 1999. The case of Kogi is pathetic, successive governments in the state has failed the citizens as far as governance is concern. The only thing that appeared to be working in Kogi is corruption, embezzlement etc which had reached an alarming rate, every now and then, the state government gives out contracts running into several millions or billions of naira but unfortunately, they can’t point to a single project that has been executed. Governor Idris Wada lead administration is incompetent and also corrupt. Even within the lokoja metropolis, there is no effective waste management scheme, the roads has passes its serviceability limits which make Lokoja the most dirtiest state capital in the Federation. Governor Idris Wada is just taking the people for a ride. Unfortunately the dividends of Democracy has been only restricted to a corrupt and avaricious few, a sharp contrast to the ideals of democracy itself. Governor Wada lead administration should revisit those democratic ideals and gear people oriented schemes towards economic liberation and empowerment...... Long Live Ebira Long Live Kogi State. Long Live Fed Rep of Nigeria.
