NO! I was NOT hanging by my feet when I took this video! I admit that it kind of looks that way but, at least the sounds arent inside-out! One endemic you can have a 98-99% chance of seeing at La Esperanza is the Colombian Chachalaca. It nests near Cabin #3 and spends much of the day very close around us. Feeder views are common now, but no clouds like the hummers yet! As much as I love this bird, it is one of the few that can actually get annoying with its long, raucous choruses. Anyone who has lived around this genus would likely agree. I am collecting some good sounds finally and this is a good example of what a real chorus of Ortalis song is like. You can distinguish the introductory cluck that starts the rhythm. One sound not here is an interesting moan that various individuals make sometimes, usually early in the day. I call it tuning up sounds. Another cool thing about these birds is the way they move: anyone else ever notice how much they creep along branches like cuckoos? Quite agile for such large birds; ooooh, and QUIET!
