NORTHERN NIGERIA AND THE NATIONAL CONFERENCE. North intensifies move for common agenda is the screaming headline of one national newspaper today Sunday, 23rd March 2014. And I couldnt help wondering what North is intensifying what move for what common agenda. If the North has so far failed to collectively stop orgy of mindless violence, murders and destruction of property by Northerners against Northerners, is it at the National Conference (or, even more ridiculously, in the United States of America) that they will find a common agenda - and for what? I wish the peoples of Northern Nigeria - as I obviously wish peoples of other parts of Nigeria - peace, unity and progress; what I cannot stand is self-deception, hypocrisy and escapism. The only common agenda that Nigerians want to hear from so-called leaders of Northern Nigeria must be how they will bring back peace and security everywhere in their areas by stopping Boko Haram terrorism, so-called herdsmen attacks and many other organised and unorganised violent crimes there. The National Conference must not become a place where people have come to chase rats when their homes are on fire suspected to have been started and fuelled by them.
