NOTE TO OUR YOUNG PEOPLE Today I wanted to write a special love letter to our children and young people. My youngest daughter is now 17 years old but many years ago when she was just about 10 years old, she behaved in a way that was disrespectful to me. As a way of bringing MEANINGFUL & BIBLICAL CORRECTION to her I was led to ask her to go and research what it means to honour ones parent. I asked her to spend her Saturday conducting research and to present me a one page typewritten paper on: a) What it means to honour ones parent b) What the biblical reasons are for honouring ones parents. It was important to me that she understand the reasons for honouring ones parents and by simply banning her from going out or from watching TV or putting her on a curfew, or whatever punishments we parents think up, this would not have been accomplished. By the end of the day, I found a sheet of paper had been slipped under my door. One of the GREATEST lessons my daughter learnt from the Word of God that day, was that honouring me, was going to benefit HER and not me and that God wanted her to honour me so that: -things would go well for her, and -she would have long life I read her paper on honouring parents with joy knowing that my daughter had understood a KEY and FUNDAMENTAL biblical principle which would transform and change her life for the better. I went to hug my repentant and teary eyed daughter and commended her for a well researched paper. I am overjoyed to report that there have been VERY few, if any, incidences of disrespect coming from my daughter since then. To this day, I still honour my parents. My mother is 89 and is visiting me now as I write. In spite of my very busy schedule, it is an honour to be able to serve her breakfast in bed and meals and take her to the doctor and have outfits made for her. What a privilege to be able to take care of someone who took care of you, and even if your parent was an MIA (missing in action parent) or even abusive parent, I challenge you to show them love and respect anyway and GOD will HONOUR you for HONOURING them. Beloveds, Honouring our parents is NOT a suggestion , nor is it a RECOMMENDATION. It is a COMMANDMENT and is part of the divine order that God has placed as part of the Kingdom principles and rules. May God give you grace to honour your parents, even when it may seem difficult or impossible to do so, that your days may be well and long, in Jesus mighty name. Amen! To our wonderful youth and our children. Lets remember that HONOURING OUR PARENTS and LONG LIFE go hand in hand! SELAH!
