NOVENA TO THE MOST BLESSED SACRAMENT June 10, 2014 - June 18, 2014 Considerations on Novenas to the Blessed Sacrament The traditional usage of Novenas to obtain favors from the Divine Goodness is so authorized not only by the example of the saints and the encouragement of the Church, and still more by the signal graces it pleases God daily to award them, that we cannot too earnestly urge the Faithful to employ this manner of prayer in their needs of soul and body, with full confidence in its efficacy to draw down heavenly blessings. These Novenas are frequently addressed by pious souls to holy intercessors, namely, to the Blessed Virgin, and to the saints in heaven. They compel them in this way to look after their interests and, as it were, to offer to God their requests. Nothing more lawful nor more conformed to Christian dogma than this. Sometimes however, they forget when practicing these devotions that our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, the great God Who can grant everything, the great Mediator Who can obtain everything, is present in the midst of us in His adorable Sacrament. Do we forget that He is there to receive our confidence, that we should tell Him all our desires, all our wants ? His Hands are filled with graces, and all He asks is that we petition for them that He may pour them upon us. Do we forget that it is to Him every prayer must be directed, in order to be heard favorably ? That through His hands it must pass, in order to attract to divine mercy? Assured not. We think we shall do great service to pious souls by earnestly advising them to adopt and recommend to others the use of NOVENAS TO THE BLESSED SACRAMENT, and by reminding that Jesus in His mystery of Love is the first of the supernatural sources from which they ought to draw, as It is the most abundant in graces and benefits. The mere utterance of this truth is sufficient for every believing soul. Facts, were we to relate them, would fully confirm our words. No week passes here in this sanctuary, where Jesus day and night manifests His Eucharistic presence, without our witnessing prodigies of His power and goodness. And how many signal graces remain unknown, the secret of God and souls ! By the Eucharist, said Blessed Father Eymard, you will perform miracles, you will cure souls by Its divine powers. O how powerful It is to touch, to convert, to bring back souls the farthest from God!...You have in the Eucharist, as says that Church the ONLY SOVEREIGN AND SPIRITUAL REMEDY... You have our Lord for the cure of the body, also. He is the Divine Unguent that heals every wound. Does not virtue go forth from His Sacred Humanity to cure every weakness ? It is sufficient to touch Him to be cured. He has not diminished His power, and contact with Him is always as salutary... No one has ever yet been recommended to the Most Blessed Sacrament, without receiving the grace he demanded. Our Lord fails not keep His word... It is, then with well - founded confidence that we present to pious souls this formula of a NOVENA TO THE MOST BLESSED SACRAMENT, with the words : In your needs, trials, come to the great Benefactor, to the great Consoler, to the Friend, Who is never invoked in vain. Pray to Jesus Eucharistic, and the earth will pass away rather than the promise He has made to grant your prayer. PRACTICAL ADVICE TO SECURE THE SUCCESS OF THE NOVENA 1. If possible, make the Novena in presence of the Most Blessed Sacrament. 2. Every day of the Novena, assist at the Holy Mass, or at least on the first and the last day. 3. Burn if you can, one or several candles before the altar of the Blessed Sacrament. 4. Try to merit the graces for which you are asking by some voluntary sacrifices, and by a more devoted application to the duties of your state. 5. Arouse in your soul a full and absolute confidence in the power and goodness of Jesus Eucharistic, always attentive to our prayers and so prompt to answer them favorably. FIRST DAY - Tuesday, June 10, 2014al O Sacrament Most Holy, O Sacrament Divine. All praise and all thanksgiving be every moment Thine. Blessed be the holy and Immaculate Conception of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God ! Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament, pray for us ! Hymn : Adoro Te Devote / Devoutly I Adore Thee O Godhead hid, devoutly I adore Thee, Who truly art within the forms before me; To Thee my heart I bow with bended knee, As failing quite in contemplating Thee. Sight, touch, and taste in Thee are each deceived; The ear alone most safely is believed: I believe all the Son of God has spoken, Than Truths own word there is no truer token. God only on the Cross lay hid from view; But here lies hid at once the Manhood too; And I, in both professing my belief, Make the same prayer as the repentant thief. Thy wounds, as Thomas saw, I do not see; Yet Thee confess my Lord and God to be: Make me believe Thee ever more and more; In Thee my hope, in Thee my love to store. O thou Memorial of our Lords own dying! O Bread that living art and vivifying! Make ever Thou my soul on Thee to live; Ever a taste of Heavenly sweetness give. O loving Pelican! O Jesu, Lord! Unclean I am, but cleanse me in Thy Blood; Of which a single drop, for sinners spilt, Is ransom for a worlds entire guilt. Jesu! Whom for the present veild I see, What I so thirst for, O vouchsafe to me: That I may see Thy countenance unfolding, And may be blest Thy glory in beholding. Amen. V. Lord Thou hast given us Bread from heaven. R. Replenished with all sweetness and delight. PRAYER O God, Who has left us in Thy adorable Sacrament, a perpetual memorial of Thy Passion, grant that by profound veneration for the Sacred Mystery of Thy Body and Blood, we may experience the lasting fruits of Thy Redemption, Who livest and reignest forever and ever. Amen. SPECIAL PRAYER FOR THE FIRST DAY I adore in Thee, Divine Jesus, present and living in the Eucharist, the all - powerful God, the Sovereign Lord and Master, by Whom all things on earth and in heaven are governed, and Whose will nothing can withstand ! In virtue of Thy power and Divinity, deign, I beseech Thee, to hear my humble prayers. Ward off from my soul and body the dangers that surround them, and grant me the graces of which I am pressing need. I humbly ask them of Thee with firm confidence and, in return for Thy benefits, I offer myself to Thee without reserve and forever to love, serve and glorify Thee in Thy adorable Sacrament. Amen. Our Father....Hail Mary...Glory be... CLOSING PRAYER FOR EVERY DAY V./ I adore Thee now and without end. R./ O Bread of Heaven, O greatest Sacrament. V./ O my Jesus, and thou O heart of Mary, I implore you to bless my soul. R./ O Jesus, my most holy Savior. To Thee I give my heart in purest love. PRAYER V./ Receive, O Lord ! and accept my entire liberty, my memory, my understanding and my whole will and and whatever I may have and possess. Thou hast given me all and to Thee I return all. All is Thine, dispose of it wholly according to Thy good pleasure. Give me only Thy love and grace, for they are sufficient for me. Amen. R./ O Jesus ! Who livest in Mary, come and live in Thy servants in the spirit of Thy power, in the truth of Thy virtues, in the perfection of Thy ways, in the participation of Thy mysteries; subdue every hostile power in virtue of Thy spirit, to the honor of the Father. Amen. —
