NOW JUNE 17, 2013 Charbel: Sectarian strife motive behind Beqaa killings Lebanese caretaker Interior Minister Marwan Charbel warned that the latest security incident in the Beqaa Valley region aimed at creating sectarian strife in the country. “The Wadi Rafeq incident aimed at creating sectarian strife,” Charbel told Voice of Lebanon (100.5) radio station on Monday. He added the investigation to uncover the identity of the perpetrators is ongoing. Charbel also voiced his backing for turning the Beqaa Valley region into a military zone. On Sunday, the National News Agency reported that four bodies were found in Wadi Rafeq near Beqaa’a Ras Baalbek, after which relatives of the victims took to the streets blocking several roads. Arsal residents issued a statement shortly afterwards denying any responsibility for the murders, and claiming instead that the incident was aimed at creating tension between residents of the town and those of neighboring areas. The incident came five days after conflicting reports emerged after Houjairy was killed near the Lebanese town of Hermel in the Beqaa Valley. According to the NNA, unknown men opened fire on a pickup truck travelling on the Hermel-Sl-Sharbin road killing Houjairy. https://now.mmedia.me/lb/en/lebanonnews/charbel-sectarian-strife-motive-behind-beqaa-killings
