NOW TRENDING: TOM LOLOSOLI AN ELEFRIEND I am not quite good in explaining myself, but I am convicted to put something down about a person whose volunteer work has touched me, and Im afraid this article may not be even enough to explain it all. Tom Lolosoli really needs no introduction-he has gone to be one of the famous Samburu County firmament, having utilized Facebook Social Network to establish a giant forum (SEDF) with original aim of creating one platform where discussions can take place to gauge the progress of the county, in almost every form of matters affecting the communities inhabiting the county, a county which has seldom won attention of the leaders, not until when county government system was introduced and implemented in Kenya. He is best known as a flamboyant and activist who encourage no nonsense in his approach to issues affecting the community. Tom holds a university bachelors of computer science. However, from the glare of the public eye, the well spoken heavyweight from the East is an elefriend (He campaigns against destruction of elephants, that are in great danger of being destroyed by the poachers, and that are one of the remaining few animals that makes the face of not only Samburu county, but Kenya at large) Members of the giant SEDF (Samburu East Development Forum) must have noticed many articles by Tom Lolosoli advocating for the conservation of the elephants, citing the importance this gives back to the community through Ministry of Tourism. I happened to be in Archers Post on June 2013 during the Walking for elephants by Jim Nyamu of Elephant Neighbours, where he accompanied people from all parts of the country in a walk that also involved relevant organizations like; Save the Elephants(STE), Osotua Wildlife Foundation(OWLF), Kalama, Namunyak among others I do not remember. Looking at Tom at the first time, I was sure having gone through his articles, that he love the elephants and is fond of news pertaining the wild animals. What I was no sure was, whether he can finish the more than 20KMs of walk for the elephants, which took place between Lerata to Archers center. I was convinced of his passion for the elephants when he made it to the Archers Post and willing to even go to an extra mile of advancing the walk to Isiolo and Nanyuki, Laikipia County. The elefriend has tirelessly been writing several articles on the state of wildlife in Kenya in unyielding effort that every youth must copy. I know him as a good community mobilizer who can get attention of the community he grew up in and has now taken his mobilization tactics in the next level by establishing SEDF which from the time of this post has a number of over 7,000 members with 300 members joining every week. Tom’s effort should be noticed to boost not just his morale, but to set a good example to the youth, and teach them how the little things they contribute towards development of our county is highly appreciated. Let us learn from his volunteer tireless work, the importance of contributing brick by brick towards building of our county, knowing that each one of you that does something significant will always be recognized and appreciated.
