NY ACC ***URGENT FOUND TIED TO A TREE,BLACK LAB RE... From: Rescue Subject: : SAVE HIM- SAD -SUPER URGENT FOUND TIED TO A TREE,BLACK LAB RETR. SWEETHEART Date: January 2, 2015 1:07:57 AM EST TO BE DESTROYED - 01/02/15Manhattan Center My name is DONNER. My Animal ID # is A1024146. I am a male black labrador retr. The shelter thinks I am about 8 YEARS old. I came in the shelter as a STRAY on 12/27/2014 from NY 10029, owner surrender reason stated was STRAY. MOST RECENT MEDICAL INFORMATION AND WEIGHT 12/30/2014 Exam Type OBSERVATION - Medical Rating is 4 NC - SEVERE CONDITIONS NOT CONTAGIOUS, Behavior Rating is NH ONLY, Weight 65.2 LBS. No seizure activity seen. QAR.12/27/2014 PET PROFILE MEMO 12/27/14 6:31 PM Donner was found tied to a fence, lying down. On the way here he started drooling excessively. Then he fell over and seized (convulsed uncontrollably) for 45 seconds. He was disoriented for a few minutes. He has a foul odor and theres a lot of wax and dirt of multiple colors in his ears. There is some thick drool on his muzzle. He moves slowly esp when sitting and standing, as if arthritic/painful in his hips. His eyes are cloudy but he got around without walking into things. He was alert during intake. During intake Donner had slightly tense body and somewhat wide eyes. He tolerated all handling (scan-negative, collar, switching leashes, pictures, petting, having teeth and ears checked) without resisting, retreating, or vocalizing. He moves very slowly but doesnt walk into things. 12/31/2014 WEB MEMO A volunteer writes: Donner was found tied to a fence. Hes an older dog, and sems to come with some health concerns. I leashed Donner easily, talking to him all the while as I wasnt sure how much he could see as he has some problems with sight. He needed a bit of coaxing to leave his kennel, but stepped down carefully and out we went. He took care of his business as soon as we were outside so is likely housetrained, and then walked slowly and perfectly by my side as we went around the block. Donner loves treats, takes them gently, and the sniff of a good treat kept him focused for some pictures. He was happy to receive some easy petting, his tail giving a few short little wags. Donner is a nice dog, his medical conditions clearly neglected but nonetheless friendly and happy to share some time with a friend. He needs a person or family who will attend to his needs and I suspect he will be a loyal companion for years to come. If you are a person who can open your home and heart to this sweet dog hes hoping youll ask to meet him today.12/29/2014 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION - NH ONLY Exam Type BEHAVIOR On 12/27/2014 Donner came to us as a stray. A staff member wrote During intake Donner had slightly tense body and somewhat wide eyes. The Assistants observations: slow walking, cautious. During the assessment Donner appeared lethargic, very slow moving allowing the Assessor to conduct the look, sensitivity, and tag (play) assessment items. While conducting the (paw) squeeze item Donner lunged and attempted to bite the Assessor. He showed no interest in food, toys or rawhide. The attempt bite is a concern. It is the recommendation of the Behavior Department Donner can go to a New Hope partner that can provide a behavior modification program with an emphasis on human touch.
