NYS WINS THIRD BELGIAN MOUNTAIN BIKE TRICOLOUR: World ‘cross champion Sven Nys won his third Belgian national mountain bike title today in Cerfontaine (after winning the championship previously in 2005 and 2007). Kevin Pauwels, the defending champion, had a crash soon after the start and could only finish seventh. Tom Meeusen was the rider who pushed Nys for much of the race, but had to settle for an impressive silver medal when Nys applied his trademark pressure late on. After collecting yet another tricolour champion jersey Nys immediately departed for Paris to appear on Belgian TV’s post-Tour de France talk and highlights show ‘Vive Le Tour’ this evening.
