The mission of Destination Imagination (the international non-profit organization) is: “To develop opportunities that inspire the global community of learners to utilize diverse approaches in applying 21st century skills and creativity. The Destination Imagination program encourages teams of learners to have fun, take risks, focus and frame challenges while incorporating STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), the arts and service learning. Our participants learn patience, flexibility, persistence, ethics, respect for others and their ideas, and the collaborative problem solving process. Teams may showcase their solutions at a tournament.” (from destinationimagination.org and madikids.org) Meeting Dates: Wednesdays from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM Meeting Location: Room 432 (Ms. Lindgren’s room) Events/Trips Planned: The Destination Imagination tournament at Lincoln-Sudbury High School on March 15th, 2015. Other: Destination Imagination is a global non-profit organization directed at students at the elementary school, secondary school, high school, and university level. The goal of the Destination Imagination club is to inspire the next generation of innovators and thinkers. This club will focus on completing one of seven challenges in the categories of technical, scientific, fine arts, improvisational, structural, service learning, early learning, and instant challenge. These challenges are provided by the Destination Imagination organization at destinationimagination.org/challenge-program/2014-15-challenge-previews. Teams consist of 2-7 members. Each team costs $95 to register, and each additional team costs $80. My mom is willing to sponsor the teams. So far, I have found enough people interested to make one full teams. Additionally, I anticipate that we will need some support in the form of supplies, depending on which challenge we choose. For instance, the Fine Arts challenge for the 2014-2015 tournament requires art supplies, and the Scientific challenge for the 2014-2015 tournament requires supplies to build an instrument. As of now, I can think of no safety concerns about the Destination Imagination club. More information on Destination Imagination can be found at destinationimagination.org and madikids.org. The Massachusetts coordinator for Destination Imagination is Karin Knapik, and any further questions should be directed to either me or Ms. Knapik at karinknapik@gmail. Thank you for considering this club.
