Names of Jesus - BREAD OF LIFE And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst. John 6:35 And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day.” John 6:40 Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me has everlasting life. I am the bread of life. John 6:47,48 Earlier in this chapter, Jesus had a huge crowd of people following him because they had seen him miraculously heal many who were sick with disease. He miraculously fed 5,000 people with a little boys lunch, which had consisted of 5 loaves (rolls?) and 2 small fish. When everybody was full, there were 12 baskets of leftovers! They came back the next day looking for more. But God wants better for us than we want for ourselves. We have all kinds of physical and emotional needs, but his focus was on our greatest need of all. Jesus said its not about satiating your physical hunger. the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” {Jesus does not neglect the poor. He undertook for the downtrodden. Elsewhere he said, when you give a feast, invite the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind. And you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you. Luke 14:13,14. He said, I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me... Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me. Matthew 25:34-39} But here he is making a specific point. Dont grasp for things that will only last in this life, but seek that which lasts for eternity. Eternal life is found in him. I love this video. Its a great illustration that says We have a very brief moment called “Time” and we spend the majority of our energies concentrating on the things that are only relative to this little section called Time. Comparatively speaking, we spend a very small amount of time and energy thinking about things that relate to eternity. The Bread of Life isnt only for someday. Jesus instructed his disciples to pray, Give us this day our daily bread. Bread is what sustains us. The book of Psalms says, cast your burdens on the Lord, and he will sustain you. Jesus said Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” You dont have to carry your burdens alone. You dont have to trudge through life overwhelmed.
