Namo Buddhaya! May homage to the Blessed One, the Noble One, the Perfectly Enlightened One! The path to free from suffering… The-path-to-free-from-suffering Faithful Devotees, The path to free oneself from suffering is the Satara Satipatthā, which means establishing one’s mind (on it). One should learn it with utmost respect and institute his mind according to it. In this manner, we will be able to free our minds from other external objectives and concentrate on the Satara Satipatthā. If one could do it, then it is the Sapta Bojjañga that is going to get developed in him. That is, the items that aid attaining realization will start to get developed in him. There are seven items that aid realization. Sati (mindfulness) Dhammavicaya (investigating the Dhamma) Viriya (effort; energy) Pīti (happiness) Passaddi (tranquility) Samādhi (concentration) Upēkkā (equanimity) We will start to understand that cultivation little by little (Sati). When a mind concentrate on the Dhamma in this manner, one will develop the talent of investigating the Dhamma by his wisdom (Dhammavicaya). When the talent of investigating Dhamma by his mind is developed, his effort gets cultivated (Viriya). When effort is developed, happiness gets cultivated (Pīti). When happiness is formed, alleviation/tranquility with respect to his (physical) body and mind gets cultivated (Passaddi). When he feels that relaxation with respect to his body and mind, his mind gets concentrated (Samādhi). A concentrated mind will become temperate since it is cultivated by wisdom (Upēkkā). This mind we have can be cultivated to that level. If this mind could be developed, it will be a blessing not only to oneself but also for the entire world. What are the things that corrupt this mind? It is the thirty two (useless) topics of speech (Detis Kathā) that corrupt a mind. These are things we get to hear mostly. What are the things that protect this mind? It is by the Dhamma talks that protect this mind. There are few basic things one needs to consider when the Dhamma is added to a life. First, we need to come to a view of the fact that we could realize the Dhamma. This Dhamma can free us from suffering. If we are capable of realizing the Dhamma and the Dhamma also can free us from the suffering, what should we do? We should join with the Dhamma. We need to join with the Dhamma mentally. If we mentally join with the Dhamma, it will become something of your own (not a separated thing). It is something that you witness. It is something that you comprehend and realize. One will be protected (by the Dhamma) from the time he reaches that level. A person with such protection will not get a birth either in hell, animal world, or ghost world after his death. He will not be born in evil worlds. So dear devotees, can’t we acquire this opportunity in this very life? We were waiting for someone to preach about it in simple words, so that we could understand it. But, when someone preaches it in a way we could understand, we begin to realize it little by little. May the Triple Gem bless you all! Sad! Sadu!! Sadu!!! Most Ven. Kiribathgoda Gnanananda Thero
