~ Nashville-Neglects ~ With a heavy heart, I have to report that yesterdays efforts of traveling to attend the opening of the Tennessee Walking Horse show season, was a bust. One of the very well known participants whos family has been involved for generations, was killed along with three of his horses traveling last October. Last night, they retired his horse (as seen here, sorry for the blur but they were moving). No opportunity presented for me to try to find any homes for the 62 cats. I met with Twila yesterday and gave all the food I could, including completely emptying my garage deep freezer of all frozen meat. I learned that these cats are not only starving, but a neighbor actually goes into the woods and brings the elderly woman pine needles to use as litter. It gets worse. These cats are in cages outside in 4w x 4L x 12h wooden buildings with no windows, no perches, just piled on each other (I cant imagine what type of buildings these could be). But there are apparently four of them. It gets worse.... One cat that they know of, is peeing a lot of blood and is very sick. Some others, have severe eye infections and I believe she said were missing eyes. None of them have ever seen a Vet. But they are all in cages like chickens. It gets worse. When I had Parker in to get neutered last Monday and he was on standby and didnt get done until Tuesday, five of the 62 were also there and didnt get done until Thursday, to ride in a open bed pick up truck for an hour an a half uncovered, back to their misery. It gets worse. The waiting list to get spayed/neutered is well into May at this point. They are being done on a feral grant that the clinic had received. It gets worse. These are tame cats and they are being ear tipped just to have the opportunity of being spayed/neutered, then they go back to living in the cages. The elderly woman thinks she is helping them by keeping them shut in. She is moving to an Old Folks Home shortly and there will be no one to take care of the cats. How she is taking care of them now in cages - I cant imagine, I know first hand how difficult it is, and at that number...... I just know it has to be absolute horrible dirty conditions. Help is desperately needed. Animal Control wants to go and remove all the cats and euthanize them. Does anyone have any suggestions? Can anyone either foster or adopt any amount to save them? Even one would be saving one life....Does anyone have any barns or outdoor shelters that they will at least have their freedom? Anything?
