National Family Mediation (NFM) is the largest provider of family mediation in England and Wales and is one of the organizations that consist the Family Mediation Council (FMC). One of the services that NFM provides is training people who wish to become family mediators through the Family Mediation Training programme. The 6 days course that I am attending covers the issues and law involved in separation and divorce, mediating children’s matters and mediating financial matters with the use of group discussion, exercises, demonstrations, role plays. At the end of the course there is an oral and written assessment. So far it is a very interesting experience. I found very revealing the part that had to do with the presence of the children in a mediation and the decision that a mediator has to make about the suitability of the parties.
