National Merit Award in the Celebrating Art online student art competition. One of our Honors Art students received this award which means out of over 7,000 entries, hers placed in the top 5% in the country. Another of our students received a Silver Key in the recent Scholastic Art Competition in Charlotte, NC. Her abstract sculpture made of melted plastic spoons, copper wire, wood and fleck stone spray paint was recognized in this competition which included all schools west of 1-40 in North Carolina. To my knowledge, the only Middle School student in our school system that received such tremendous recognition. In closing, my entire Honors Art Class of 23 students will be officially recognized for all of their accomplishments at the Iredell-Statesville Schools Board of Education Meeting this Monday evening at 6 PM in the Courthouse Building in downtown Statesville. Over the last three years these students have received over 236 and counting different awards at the local, district, regional, state and national levels. In 26 years of being an educator I have never seen such a determined, fierce, talented, funny, dedicated and outstanding group of creative students. Simply AMAZING!!!
