National President Ann Panteleakos visited Ohio last weekend. Upon arrival in Columbus, she headed to dinner at Fado Irish Pub where she was joined by Department President Sandra Uzell; Department Line Officers; Historian Rory Myers; National Council Member Meg Klaameyer, Visit Chairman Anna Clendenen, and her husband Leory, who was the official driver for her visit. The following day, they toured the Ohio Statehouse, saw the Veterans Hall of Fame wall in the Riffe Building and was presented with a proclamation from Ohio State Veterans Service Commission Director Timothy C. Gorrell. Following lunch at Schmidts Sausage Haus in Germantown, they headed to the Department of Ohio VFW and Ladies Auxiliary Headquarters where President Ann had an opportunity to visit with Department Secretary-Treasurer Donna Russo. That evening, President Ann was joined by Past Department Presidents, Department Line Officers and District Presidents for dinner at Heritage House. The following day, she visited Green Lawn Cemetery, where James Romanis, one of the original founders of the Veterans of Foreign Service in 1899, is buried. She marched in the Founders Day Parade and was honored to give remarks at the ceremony. Many Post and Auxiliary members from around the state were present, including Department Commander Robert A. Poole, Jr., the Cooties, and Junior Girls Unit 2595. At the conclusion of the ceremony, they proceeded to Post and Auxiliary 9857 for the Founder Day luncheon, awards and speaking program. She truly enjoyed visiting with members from Ohio and being part of where it all began. Thanks for hosting, Ohio! #LAVFWPP
