Nature hikers share a laugh on their leisurely stroll on the White Mountain Nature Center loop, while Norris and Becky Dodd guide, during the Walk for the Woods June 1 at the Nature Center. The walk raised money for the acquisition of Woodland Lake Park and land acquisition for the Nature Center through a series of hikes in Pinetop-Lakeside. In total, around $9,000 was raised. Dan Groebner from Arizona Game and Fish also organized a geocaching activity during the event. Hikes were followed by lunch and a concert by The Lakesiders at the Nature Center. The center will present Wonders of Our Ponderosa Pine Forest — trees, squirrels and wildlife this Saturday, an event on forestry and forest health principles and relationships to wildlife, with live squirrels starting at 10 a.m. The Nature Center is located at 425 S. Woodland Road, south of the stop light on state Route 260, next to the Big Springs Environmental Study Area. Call (928) 358-3069 for more information.
