Navan U17s Just Miss Out in Leinster Premier League Final Navan U17s lost by the slimmest of margins, 12-11, to Skerries in Sundays Leinster Premier League final. Played at St. Marys grounds at Templeville Road in Dublin, the conditions were perfect and it was a tremendous hi-tempo game played by two well-matched, skillful sides. Skerries started quickly, scoring a a fine converted try off a lineout maul in the opening minutes. Gradually, Navan grew into the game and deservedly scored a try off a scrum, with Conor Nash going over. Navan dominated possession and territory for most of the remainder of the first half, but failed to capitalise on several good opportunities. At half time, Navan were still trailing 7-5. The second half saw the intensity upped further from both sides, and with both defences so well organised it quickly became clear that one or two scores would decide the contest. As with the first half Navan probably had more possession and territory but couldnt quite manage to get in for the vital try, in spite of a few good opportunities. It must be said that Skerries scramble defence was magnificent. Christian Byrne kicked two tremendous penalties, and as the game reached the final minutes, Navan were ahead 11-7. Unfortunately for Navan, a couple of contentious refereeing decisions saw 2 Navan players sin-binned in those last few minutes, tilting an already fine balance firmly towards Skerries, and with the final seconds ticking down, they scored what proved to be the winning try in the corner. Both sides had given their all and should be proud of such a sporting, highly skillful and exhausting contest. Navan: David Fox, Oisin Lavin Kelly, Alex McGoey, Charlie McGarry, JJ ODea, Darragh Hoare, Conor Farrell, Conor Hand, Niall McGrane, Christian Byrne, Keelan McGeever, Ben McEntaggert, Conor Nash, Cian Twomey, Shane Walshe, Ian Rickard, Jake Love, Kevin Lynch, Eoghan Monaghan, Andrew Devine, Finn Searle, Graham Brennan.
