Navi Pillay, widely considered to be the most effective UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in the world body’s history, has been attacked by autocratic governments in Syria, North Korea, Sri Lanka, and elsewhere for her frank and independent voice. Unfortunately, she is being forced to step down two years prior to the end of her second term because of the Obama administration’s “displeasure with her criticism of Israel.”
