Nerdy post. Legitimate debate, theres an article on IGN about Michael Keaton wanting to do another Batman movie if he and Tim Burton could collaborate on it again, but it says in the article that the Burton Batman ushered in the modern superhero genre in movies. I dont think thats actually a true statement, but Id love to hear others opinions. I feel like Batman spawned 1 great sequel, and two mediocre/bad ones, and there were a couple of superhero movies around that time, but I kind of think the movie that really should get credit for ushering in the *modern* superhero genre would be XMen from 2000, which sort of led into the Sam Raimi Spider-man in 2002, and the boom from there. Which was why they had to reboot Batman with Begins in order to be part of it. Actually depending on how you define modern for discussion, I might even go so bold as to suggest Iron Man as the vanguard of the current era of superhero movies. I feel like the Marvel Cinematic Universe sort of redefined the genre and expanded the scope of Superhero movies and the rest of the field is now changed as a result of it. Thoughts?
