Netanyahu told i24 he cannot see the PA leadership making moves that require them to withstand severe criticism in their own society. I have to agree with Netanyahu on this. Abbas simply does not have the desire or the courage to move even one inch. It is the institutionalised anti semitism in the PA that has created the Frankensteins monster that is Palestinian society. If Abbas makes any painful concessions, he know that this society has the potential to destroy its creator. The right of return is so enshrined in their psyche that it has become an almost Holy rite for them. They are indoctrinated from a very early age so that they memorise the names of the villages that their grandparents fled during the war of independence, and which no longer exist. The PA has bombarded its citizens with a vitriolic anti semitism, which claims that their land was stolen and they will one day return to establish their own muslim state between the river and the sea. All of this to deflect public outrage at their own corruption which is endemic in the Palestinian territories, and to focus their anger on a perceived enemy - Israel. All of this means that Abbas also does not have the strength to make any meaningful or historic compromises with Israel at all, because he knows that if he does the arabs will do what they do best, overthrow their leadership and drag them through the streets.
