Never really understood the genocide in Rwanda, was reading up on - TopicsExpress

Never really understood the genocide in Rwanda, was reading up on it a bit tonight, and realized I was living in my van, in the middle of a romantic drama and driving from Santa Cruz to Washington State when it happened. This is a very moving documentary on how the hands of the UN peacekeeping force were tied, and the US government (and the rest of the world) failed to act to prevent the slaughter of 800,000 unarmed people, with machetes and machine guns by the HUTUS. Moving testimonies by various people who were involved in the situation, and frustrated by the inability to do more to stop it. An interesting study of human nature, and the capacity for evil and good that lies within us... including the capacity to ignore things and look the other way, and pretend that they arent happening. This happened on the Bill Clinton watch, and now the story from various people who could have done something is, Gee, if only wed understood how serious the situation was, we would have done a lot more-which is bullshit, as shown in the documentary. And of course, the inevitable blaming of white people and the West by some, as if it was white people, Americans, or Belgians who slaughtered these people-when it was AFRICANS, namely HUTUS, who murdered another group of human beings because they hated them, and did not want to share the country with them!! https://youtube/watch?v=VJAuyIRfYIM
