#NeverForget #my911story Remembering that beautiful Tuesday morning when everything changed. I was living in Clarkston, MI and stayed home from work for the second day, throwing up. My husband left to take Chase and Arianna to Kindergarten and daycare. Every morning I would watch the Today Show before leaving to go to work at Organic on the Chrysler digital account. That was the routine. Get the kids out the door while watching The Today Show and get to work. On 9/11 I felt different, a heaviness, and thought it was just because I was recovering from the past 24 hours stomach flu. Instead of the Today Show, I pulled out my Bible and began to read. Im a bedtime reader if anything, so this was not typical of me. I believe I was reading Psalms. David had been through a lot and still he had a heart after Gods own and could find a way to be thankful through it all. My husband ran in the door and interrupted my peaceful reading on the couch. Turn on the TV! A plane has flown into the World Trade Center! So then we watched and I couldnt figure out how that was an accident. I flew somewhat regularly for work. Very strange. Then I saw it happen on live TV. The second plane hit the south tower. Thats not an accident! I yelled at Matt Lauer, who agreed with me. We, as a nation, were now in shock. What would be next? The answer came quickly. The Pentagon. Other targets possible, but where? I wanted to get my kids home, but we stayed glued to the TV waiting to find out what was next. I was reassured with the thought that our tiny little private school and daycare were not on anyones radar. Tried calling my little brother several times. He worked in the shadow of the Sears Tower in Chicago and reporters were speculating that was another possible target. Couldnt get through to him. I got on email as my only hope to connect. Jeff was safe. Our offices in NYC, where I just visited a few weeks prior, were very close to the WTC and I saw the building with every replay of the planes. The NYC team was fully accounted for, but they had no power and were carrying servers down 10 flights of stairs and trying to get them somewhere safe. After the plane went down in PA, we waited...and prayed...and waited. Finally, nothing more. Thank the Lord! There was an airport near our house so planes going overhead were common. I went out to the backyard and stood at the fence talking with our neighbor. Quiet skies...except for the occasional fighter jet from the military base nearby. We talked..tried to articulate our feelings and failed...but we were thankful to be here. Thankful for President Bushs address to the nation and the world to let everyone know we are going to take care of this. Thankful to be the land of the free and the home of the brave, even when that makes us a target by those who do not understand our great capacity to love. We LOVE our country, our friends, and our neighbors and WE WILL #NEVERFORGET.
