New Article, " How to differentiate Acne from Rosacea. " has been uploaded into our skinvd.org web site. Acne and Rosacea are two of the most common skin disorders. They share in common the presence of papules and pustules on the face, a situation that can lead to misdiagnosis by those not familiar with the full spectrum of the diseases. However, their differences are more numerous and pronounced than their similarities. What are the features to look for differentiating Rosacea from acne? It should be apparent that there are abundant differences in acne and rosacea, in terms of etiology, epidemiology, manifestations, prognosis, and treatment. However, if a patient has other acne-like lesions that occur in both disorders (papules, pustules), the dermatologist may ask him or her series of questions. If the answers are affirmative, the problem is more likely to be rosacea. For instance: Is the patient outside the usual age range for onset of acne (ie, puberty)? Does the patient have a history of blushing or facial reddening? Do the lesions occur in a symmetric distribution? Can the patient list obvious triggers that cause the condition to flare? Is telangiectasia present? Does the patient have a persistent overall reddening of the entire face? Does the face have an abnormal sensitivity to cosmetics, cleansers, perfumes, and/or sunscreens? Does the patient have ophthalmic symptoms? To read the full article please visit the skinvd.org web site or click the link below skinvd.org/files/casebrief.aspx?qsPatId=21946-5-8-2013-528
