New Bring Back Our Girls Group Says It Will Fight Terrorists Another ‘Bring Back Our Girls’ group of protesters has emerged in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, still calling on the terrorist group, Boko Haram, to set the Chibok girls free from captivity. Spokesperson for the group, Princess Merriam Onuoha, on Saturday, told reporters that the group, called ‘the Grand Alliance Against Terrorism’, which converged at the same venue, the Unity Fountain, would go beyond the release of the abducted girls to fight terrorist whole and entire. While the group led by former Minister of Education, Dr Oby Ezekwesili, said they would not be deterred until the girls were released, the new group came with young school children with placards brandishing different inscriptions and prayers for the missing girls. They said theirs protest would go beyond the release of the girls to complete eradication of terrorism in Nigeria. For over 23 days, these campaigners, calling on the Nigerian government to do more and secure the release of the girls abducted from their dormitory in Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok on April 14, have carried their campaigns to relevant government authorities to know what they are doing to ensure that the girls are released. “We will not be deterred in putting pressure on government until the girls return,” Dr Ezekwesili said. The new group leader, Princess Onouha, called on Nigerians to treat the Boko Haram as an enemy of the state. As the search and rescue operations continue, there seems to be so much pressure from all angles, but it remains to be seen if government’s intervention will be anything to go by in the days ahead. Since the abduction of the girls, groups have protested in different states in Nigeria, with a #BringBackOurGirls demand. Protests have also held in other countries. Egypt, France, Israel and the US have assured the Nigerian government of their support in the search and rescue of the girls.
