New Brunswick Public Library Service 2014-2015 Industry Canada Youth Internship Program Paid Internship Opportunity New Brunswick Public Library Service (NBPLS) invites applications for the Industry Canada Youth Internship Program. Through a grant from Industry Canada, New Brunswick Public Library Service (NBPLS), in cooperation with the Education & Continuous Learning Services (ECLS) Branch of the department of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour, is offering internship opportunities in select NBPLS public libraries and regional offices. To qualify, applicants must be: • between the ages of 15 and 30; • a Canadian citizen, or a permanent resident, or legally entitled to work in Canada; and • a high-school graduate, with some post-secondary education. In addition: • Individuals currently enrolled in college or university or who have completed their degree(s) are also eligible. • Successful candidates will be required to obtain a criminal record check for work with the vulnerable sector. • Priority may be given to first-time applicants and those facing employment barriers, Aboriginal people, members of a visible minority group, persons with disabilities, and women. • Youth interns cannot collect Employment Insurance benefits during their internship. • Family members of NBPLS employees are ineligible for this program. • This position requires travel and a valid driver’s license. Linguistic requirement: • Written and spoken competence in English is required. Please state your language capability in your résumé or cover letter. Duties: depending on the needs of the site library, some or all of these duties may be required. • Design and/or deliver training related to Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and library e-services to public library patrons and staff in a group setting or one-on-one. • Update libraries’ web pages and develop new content as required. • Create Facebook/Twitter pages for the libraries and upload content. • Regularly post to libraries’ existing social media sites (e.g., Facebook, Twitter). • Investigate use of new technologies relevant to library services. • Travel to libraries within the region to deliver training or otherwise assist library staff. • Promote library e-services through onsite demonstrations and presentations in the libraries and in communities (Outreach). • Create lists in the NBPLS online catalogue. • Other duties as assigned. Compensation: $15.00 per hour Locations of Internships: L.P. Fisher Public Library (Woodstock) 679 Main St. Woodstock, N.B. The total number of hours of work will be determined by the hiring region, but will not exceed 420 hours for the duration of the internship. The work schedule will include evening and Saturday hours.
