New Home, New Life Recently, the radio drama “New Home New Life” celebrated its 20th birthday in Kabul. Every month, millions of Afghans share the lives of the residents of the Deh Bala/Bar Keli, where the programme is set. But “New Home, New Life” isn’t just entertainment. Gul Makai, Moalem Rahim and other community members have the same worries and dreams as real Afghans, and the programme helps listeners to find positive solutions to their everyday problems. At the anniversary celebration, Rukiya, a listener from Paktia, talked about how the programme was changing lives in her community: a New Home, New Life storyline focused on the problem of families keeping girls out of school, helped her convince her neighbours to send their daughters to school. STAGES, which is funded by the UK Aid’s Girls Education Challenge, is working with the Afghan Education Production Organisation (AEPO) to encourage more girls in Afghanistan to benefit from an education.
