New Job Senior Engineer - Packhouse. - HER7 Industry: Engineering Job Type: Permanent Location: Herefordshire, England Gi Groups client is the UKs largest independent strawberry grower. The client, also produces asparagus, uses modern and innovative growing techniques and has a thriving year round soft fruit import business. Their principal customers include the major multiple food retailers in the United Kingdom. They currently have the following full time, permanent vacancy within their commercial department, based in Herefordshire: Senior Engineer - Packhouse. OVERALL JOB PURPOSE Oversee the safe and effective planned, preventative and breakdown maintenance of all packhouse plant, machinery and packing lines, to ensure optimum availability to achieve the processing and packing of fruit. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES Planned Maintenance Program Draw up and implement a planned and preventative maintenance program for all plant, machinery and equipment together with a spares procurement strategy to ensure equipment operates safely and to optimum efficiency in accordance with the Provision & Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 Maintenance Cover Ensure the operation has sufficient competent maintenance personnel to cover across all shifts (during peak season 24 hours a day 7 days a week). This includes managing external contractors (where applicable) Enhancing Better Productivity Regularly assess all production equipment and lines to ensure maximum productivity. Seek out and implement minor and major design changes and modifications to existing layouts and processes to drive reductions in labour costs and more accurate sorting Managing Installation Projects Oversee all plant and equipment design, construction and installation projects and activities designed to maximise packhouse productivity and efficiency with justifiable returns on investment. KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS Minimisation of disruption (down time) caused by electrical and mechanical failure of plant, machinery and equipment, such that customer delivery schedules are not adversely compromised. Full compliance with the Provision & Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998, as assessed by internal and external audits by enforcement agencies. Delivery of engineering activities and projects on time, to budget and to specification. Effective leadership and performance management of engineering team in relation to role clarity, setting of staff objectives, performance development, improvements in levels of skill and degree of engagement. PERSON SPECIFICATION QUALIFICATIONS As an absolute minimum: ESSENTIAL City & Guilds 2381 (Wiring & Installation) City & Guilds 2391 (Inspect. & Testing) DESIRABLE An ONC or HNC in Engineering Degree in an engineering discipline A management qualification KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE Good understanding of the IEE Wiring Regulations (16 th edition) 2001 (BS7671) Sound knowledge of HASAWA 74 and Electricity at Work Regulations Has worked in a production line environment with fast moving lines Has worked in a food manufacturing packaging production environment Has experience of managing a multi-discipline team of specialist maintenance engineers & technicians Has knowledge of PPM Systems KEY SKILLS & BEHAVIOURS Operational Focus - Hands on, flexible and action (outcome) orientated. A practical and decisive doer rather than purely a thinker. Project Management - Able to organise activities, maintain records, plan and implement projects whilst maintaining performance levels through the effective control of design and procurement activities as well as program, labour and other costs. People Management - Effective leadership and people management skills. Able to motivate and devlop a team to ensure task focus in challenging and adverse working conditions.
