New Release! In contrast to some of my friends who got lost at age 14 or 15 in the adagietto of the 5th Symphony or in the andante amoroso of the 7th, my way to Mahler began later. At home we listened to Mozart and Verdi and at Christmas time to Handel’s Messiah. And when I entered several choirs as a teenager I became acquainted with Bach, Mendelssohn, Schubert and Brahms. But I met Mahler when I began to study music. I am not really sure which was the very first Mahler work I heard. Was it the adagietto from the 5th? The “Tragic” 6th with Zubin Mehta conducting? The Rückert Lieder with Jessye Norman singing? Or was it the “Resurrection” Symphony”, the 2nd? (I was able to attend the celebration of the 100th anniversary of its premiere.) There was one thing I knew immediately: his music would never leave me. And it appears that I follow the paths and directions that Mahler presents and that the “Resurrection” Symphony” and its Urlicht section have played decisive roles in my musical development. I made my debut with the Vienna Philharmonic in the Mahler 2nd and my US debut with the New York Philharmonic on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Mahler’s debut in New York. And I’ve performed in places crucial to Mahler’s career as a composer and conductor, singing Des Knaben Wunderhorn in Toblach , the Rückert Lieder, Fahrende Gesellen and Mahler’s 2nd in the Musikverein in Vienna and a group of lieder in Steinbach/Attersee. Available in FLAC 48kHz.
