New South Wales and Australian Capital Territory Forecast Forecast for the rest of Monday Rain in the southeast, with local moderate falls. A medium to high chance of showers in most other areas, although generally fine in the far west. Snow above 1400 metres in the Alps tonight. Thunderstorms in central and eastern districts, more likely about the coast and ranges during the afternoon or evening. Fresh northwest to northeasterly winds ahead of a cooler, gusty south to southwesterly change spreading through the western, southern and central parts. Tuesday 14 October Very high chance of rain over most of the coast, ranges and western slopes, with heavy falls possible about the Hunter and Mid North Coast districts and moderate to heavy falls for Sydney, the Illawarra and Central Tablelands. Rain falling as snow above 1300 metres in the Alps. Moderate to high chance of showers through the western slopes and central west, although remaining fine in the far west. Fresh to strong south to southwesterly winds extending throughout by the afternoon, likely increasing to gale force along central parts of the coast and creating dangerous surf conditions. Coastal erosion also possible for central parts of the coast. Fire Danger - Very High: Far North Coast. Weather Situation A cold front is currently moving through central parts of New South Wales, and is expected to move through the far north east on Tuesday morning. A low pressure centre will develop within the front on Tuesday somewhere offshore from the central part of the coast, and will intensify and move to be offshore from the Hunter or Mid North Coast by Tuesday night, bringing heavy rain and strong southerly winds to the central parts of the New South Wales coast. The low will slowly move further out into the Tasman Sea on Wednesday, with a high pressure system strengthening to the southwest. Winds and rain along the coast are likely to ease on Wednesday, however some coastal shower activity is likely to persist under the influence of an upper cool trough.
