New Years Day: First off, here is another wish for a healthy, - TopicsExpress

New Years Day: First off, here is another wish for a healthy, happy, rewarding new year for all of you! 2015 will bring lots of surprises, for sure. Hopefully, they are GOOD surprises. This should not be a surprise: We are looking at a 12-14 day stretch of temperatures averaging out colder than normal! With that cold, there will be at least 3 chances for accumulating snowfall. Sadly, this weekend system....which at one time looked promising....now looks.....to use a highly technical term.....cruddy! Low pressure will approach from the southwest. The track will not be in a favorable position to bring snow....however, as the low approaches the state.....with cold air in place at the onset....we start off with a period of FZR (freezing rain) and sleet. Far northwest Indiana may start off as snow. It looks now like this period of ice may last from 1-3 hours, south to north. This would be enough time to put down a light glaze of ice. The low should track overhead....or just to the west. As the low moves through, temperatures rise fast....winter precip quickly changes to rain, and heavy rain at that. Some places may even hear thunder. Rainfall likely will exceed .80 in places. Temps crash late Sat PM....and any leftover moisture will fall as light snow. Winds increase on Sunday..... Of course....the exact track of the low is critical. We are still a couple of days out....so time to monitor. Next week looks to feature the coldest air of the season to date....along with a couple of chances for snow. We dont go above freezing after Sat PM for quite a while.....in fact, we dont even approach freezing.... You will notice some wide temperature extremes in the outlook. Remember, unless noted otherwise.....colder temps north....warmer south. Friday: Sunshine....with clouds increasing Highs 32-38 FZR/SLEET possible after 5AM. Lows 24-28 Sat: A period of FZR/SLEET early....snow far NW.....changing over to all rain.....windy.....temps rising fast....Highs 43-55 Rainfall between .50 - .80+ Any leftover precip changes back to snow flurries after midnight. Lows 30-35 Sunday: AM flurries.....cloudy....very windy......Early High of 30-35....temps steadily fall through the day.....Lows 5-13 Monday: Sunshine mixed with clouds.....light snow possible late... Highs 14-21 Lows 8-13 Tuesday: The CLIPPER PARADE BEGINS.....light to moderate snow possible....just too early to speculate on the track.... Clippers dont often feature heavy snow.....but because of their origins in Canada....can fluff up a nice 2 snow into a healthy 4-5 snow.....each Clipper is unique, so we will have to watch this one closely. Highs 22-26 Lows +2 to +9 Wednesday: COLDEST AIR YET!!! Clouds and sunshine.....Highs 7-14 (based on at least some snow cover) Lows -4 to +4 Updates as needed......
