New York Times headline says “Vote by U.N. General Assembly - TopicsExpress

New York Times headline says “Vote by U.N. General Assembly Isolates Russia” Lets do some fact checking, shall we ? Out of 193 members of the UN general assembly, 100 voted to condemn Russia’s annexation of Crimea. 63 voted against the motion and the rest did not vote. That is a slim majority, just over 50%. Now, let us compare that with - say - UN general assembly vote to end US trade embargo against Cuba. There have been a total of 22 occasions where US embargo and trade punishment to Cuba has been condemned in the UN. Since 1992, the General Assembly has been condemning the US trade embargo every year, and with overwhelming majority each time. The last such vote was in October 2013 (five months ago), where 188 members out of 193 condemned the US. Obama administration has tightened the trade war against Cuba even more than George Bush did. Or, shall we check the UN general assembly record on US support for Israel’s treatment of Palestine ? Most people with even rudimentary knowledge of world affairs knows all about world opinion on this count. I do not know how many times the UN general assembly has voted to condemn Israel’s shabby treatment of the people of Palestine. It happens every few months. One of the recent ones had 118 nations voting to condemn Israel, and 7 voting against it. Those seven were - U.S., Israel, Canada, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, Palau. IN essence, Israel, its puppet USA and USA’s puppet Canada have the grand support four other mighty nations - Micronesia, Marshall Island, Nauru and Palau. Anybody knows where on the globe these mighty nations are located ? I wonder when NY times will dwell on that. Or, you could consider the very recent UN panelists report, strongly condemning USs record of abuse of human rights, involving torture, arbitrary detentions, drone strikes, bulk surveillance and lack of transparency in national security programmes etc. Where is the mainstream media on this latest UN report? These are reasons I consider mainstream media, and NY times is one such, same as horse shit. What is even more ridiculous is that articles like these are written by what appears to be Americans of ethnic Indian (from India) background - with a name like Somini Sengupta. The article had almost 200 comments by people, an overwhelming majority ridiculing it. I did send the following comment myself - dont know if it will be approved or not - “Stupid articles like this is the reason I refuse to pay my hard earned money to subscribe to newspapers such as the NY Times.” nytimes/2014/03/28/world/europe/General-Assembly-Vote-on-Crimea.html
