Newcastle United can aim for top eight this season, says excited Alan Pardew Alan Pardew reckons the third incarnation of Newcastle United on his watch have a nice blend of pace and exciting young players Alan Pardew insists that “exciting times” lie ahead for Newcastle United despite the setback at Arsenal on Saturday night. Pardew, who won two awards last week for Barclays Manager of the Month and the LMA performance of the week for beating Chelsea, believes United can finish eighth. And he is looking forward to working with the current crop of players in the coming months. He said: “When we come into January if I can get Siem de Jong back and my two goalies return we are going to look like a very strong squad. We can push for top eight I hope. At the moment we are just finding our way. “It’s another new team, probably my third team since I’ve been here. I like this one it’s got a nice blend to it.” Pardew has now been at United for over four years and he is the third longest serving United boss after Sir Bobby Robson and Kevin Keegan. And although there have been ups and downs he feels that there have been some memorable times. He said: “We’ve had some great times and beat a lot of great teams. “We’ve had some success and got ourselves into Europe, finished fifth then got to the quarter-finals of the Europa League so we do need to improve on that if we can. “We’ve got the quarter-final of the League Cup against Spurs so it’s exciting times. “I think this team has an excitement level to it. It’s got pace and in the background we have some really good young players.” Pardew feels that his team are good value for eighth place. He said: “At the start of the season I didn’t feel we got the results we deserved particularly in one or two games. Then we got a run of games where things did fall our way a little bit and you need that in any sport. “But also it’s fantastic effort by the players.” CHRONICLE
