Newly Appointed Saudi Ambassador Approved Sierra Leone’s newly appointed Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was today, Friday, 6th February, 2014 approved by the House of Parliament. Alhaji Mohamed Sillah Kargbo was approved alongside other Presidential Nominees, Soulay Bashirou Daramy, High Commissioner to the Gambia (former State Chief of Protocol) Brima Acha Kamara, Ambassador to Liberia (former Inspector General of Police) and others. Members of the Committee on Appointments and Public Service in the House of Parliament interviewed five nominees early this week. Responding to questions from the Committee, Ambassador Kargbo was quoted by the daily Awareness Times newspaper to have said he believed he was one of the fittest appointees of the president. He said he has got a wealth of experience serving in diplomatic positions. He said he will use his new office to further contribute towards the development of Sierra Leone. He promised to strengthen the existing bilateral relationship between Sierra Leone and Saudi Arabia. In a brief telephone interview with the new Saudi envoy this evening, Ambassador M.S Kargbo told me that his approval as ambassador to Saudi does not mean he is going to serve as APC ambassador but as an ambassador of Sierra Leone. Hence he will be protecting the interest of all Sierra Leoneans in the Kingdom and the other countries he would be accredited to, irrespective of political, ethnic or regional considerations. Kargbo served as Special Assistant to His Excellency the President on Political Affairs from 2008 before his appointment as Ambassador in December 2013. He will succeed Mr. Wusu B. Munu who served the Sierra Leone Mission in Saudi since August, 2008.
