News - We will be running Wizards sanctioned D&D Encounters beginning August 20th. D&D Encounters is a weekly program on Wednesday nights that usually runs about 2 hrs play time. Anyone can jump in and play at anytime, so even if you miss a week or only want to play every other week, its flexible. This program is for new and experienced players alike, running the new 5th edition rule-set. Characters generally start at level 1 and work their way up. Encounters is now also a part of the D&D Adventurers League which is an organized play program. Besides D&D Encounters, there will also be D&D Expeditions scheduled beginning in September. Expeditions have special adventures in which you can bring your character from homeplay or Encounters. Expeditions are longer adventures, usually 3-4 hours in length and will be most likely scheduled for Sunday afternoons. The Adventurers League will have varying story lines and one special reward for players. Magic items. Magic items are represented by certificates for your character. This means not every character will have certain items, and you will have to have your certificates logged in order to use them in the league. The league will also have player factions which characters choose. Joining a faction gives you story ties to the campaign, then as you gain ranks in your faction you get access to special rewards. For example, - Secret missions only available to members of certain factions, - Special downtime activities you can take between adventures. - As you play adventures, you gain renown points in your faction. Renown points translate to ranks, new ranks unlock new benefits. - Gaining rank also progresses you through the ranks of the faction in-world. D&D is now in its 5th iteration of rules and a new starter box will be releasing July 15th at Hastings and Barnes and Noble, or, July 3rd at Rooks. However, you dont have to buy anything to play. Wizards will be releasing the basic rules and character creation tomorrow July 3rd for free download. D&D Encounters nights will also feature a large number of pre-made characters to choose from if you would prefer not to make your own. Lastly, we will be running a small campaign over 3-4 sessions called the Lost Mine of Phandelver. If you choose to join us for these sessions, there will be special magic items you can acquire through this campaign and have a jump start when the Encounters season begins.
