News Flash!! Front/Space is announcing new management. Founding members Leandra Burnett, Kent Szlauderbach, and Sarah Murphy have decided to pursue new creative endeavors and conclude their respective chapters as directors of the organization for the time being. Their run concluded with a Rocket Grant funded publication, Civilian, a magazine dedicated to art, literature, and the city. With this, they are succeeded by Kendell Harbin and Madeline Gallucci’s partnership as co-directors. Madeline Gallucci has exhibited her artwork nationally and local, notably her recent solo show ‘Confectionary’ at Plug Projects in Kansas City, and is currently the Artist-in-Residence at Hotel Phillips. Presently, Gallucci works at KCAI as the Campus Activities and Housing Coordinator, where she coordinates and manages events such as the annual Drag Show and Field Day celebrations. Gallucci’s organizational prowess and unbridled energy culminate in her interest to exhibit new artists in unconventional venues in Kansas City. Kendell Harbin is currently in her first year at Kansas City’s own alternative graduate program: Rad School. In recent years Harbin has participated in numerous art symposiums, lectures, and workshops in the Missouri region. During the summer of 2012 she was a Fellow at the Ox-Bow School of Art and Artists Residencies in Saugatuck, Michigan, where her research focused on the working dynamics of collaboration. A KCAI admissions counselor by day, she is an arts organizer by night, dedicated to cultivating a creative society in Kansas City. With these backgrounds and diverse dedications, Harbin and Gallucci are excited to build upon the core function of Front/Space: continuing programming in non-traditional gallery contexts; focusing on radical, interactive, and interdisciplinary projects and exhibitions. Supported by a Rauschenberg Foundation SEED grant, plans are already underway to hit the ground running before 2015 with a series of workshops, forums, and public events, followed by an open call for exhibitions in the spring. Additionally, the co-directors are elated to share that Kansas City artists Brett Ginsburg, Joseph Hutchins, and Christian Velasquez will be the new residents at the Front/Space address. In years past, patrons of the gallery have known this live/work space to be shaped by its’ inhabitants. With this new arrangement, we see an opportunity to build a community that reflects our vision for the future of art and culture. We will strive to program events that demonstrate the power of friendship, passion, ambition, and the beauty of living and working together. Keep your eyes peeled for events this month! :) ;) :p
