#News: Global Agenda Post-2015 Report Launched A High Level Panel on the Post-2015 Global Agenda held a meeting at the UN Conference Centre in Addis Ababa, Monday (August 5) to launch its report: “A new Global Partnership: Eradicate Poverty and Transform Economies through Sustainable Development”. The report aims to build on the success in implementation of the MDG’s, and President Sirleaf of Liberia, one of the authors, noted that the report “is the product of an intense nine-month global consultation, equipped with the views of the governments, civil society, academia and the private sector.” It sets out a universal agenda to eradicate extreme poverty by 2030. The meeting was attended by representatives of African states as well as members of civil society, and in his address, Mr. Carlos Lopes, Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Africa called for a more bold agenda for Africa – one that takes into account the existing continental frameworks. “Our continent faces unique challenges and opportunities that require specific policy interventions and distinct goals for both economic and social development, he said; adding that it was in this regard that recent policy discussions among leading regional institutions have proposed “African Development Goals”. These ADGs, Mr. Lopes said, should be framed to take into account the existing continental frameworks, particularly the AU/NEPAD program, Agenda 2063 Vision and other programs on infrastructure, agriculture, governance, industrialization, resource mobilization and capacity development. The Executive Secretary lauded the panel for “an excellent job in capturing global priorities and the key, overarching and cross-cutting issues that should be included in the post 2015 agenda.”
