#News: The #Ethiopian Embassy in #Stockholm holds a successful New Year fund raising event The Ethiopian Embassy in Stockholm held a successful New Year fund raising event for the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam in collaboration with the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam Council in Stockholm on September 20. Ambassador Woinshet Tadesse, Ambassador of Ethiopia to Sweden and other Nordic countries, said that in celebrating a New Year it is common to make plans for the next year on the basis of the last years achievements. Ethiopia, she said, had made significant achievements both at domestic and global level, maintaining the rapid economic growth of the previous decade and engaging in a number of major projects including the Addis Ababa Light Railway, the Addis Ababa-Djibouti Railway and the construction of the Grand Renaissance Dam. It had also made remarkable progress in the agriculture and industry sectors. Ambassador Woinshet stressed that this Ethiopian New Year is the final year of the Growth and Transformation Plan I (2011-2015), and a preparation year for the GTP2. It was also a year in which the national elections take place. It is, therefore, she said, a year that demands that Ethiopians and people of Ethiopian origin should work together hand-in-hand with the Government towards achieving their goals. Ambassador Woinshet expressed best wishes for the New Year to participants at the occasion and thanked the organizers and the artists present, Neway Debebe, Ali Bashir and Shumiye. The Chairman of the Council, Mr. Fitsum Demissie, also expressed his New Year wishes to participants and the artists. The occasion, attended by more than 400 Ethiopians, people of Ethiopian origin and friends of Ethiopia, raised more than 165,000 SEK.mfa.gov.et/news/more.php?newsid=3503
