News and announcements from the Textile Society of America TSA is Pleased to Announce the Winner of The 2012 R. L. Shep Ethnic Textile Book Award Editors of Chinese Silks, Feng Zhao and Dieter Kuhn, have been awarded the R.L Shep Ethnic Textile Book Award for 2012. In 2000 the Textile Society of America established The R. L. Shep Ethnic Book Award, through a generous donation from R.L. Shep. This prestigious award, presented yearly, recognizes a book on ethnographic textiles for its outstanding scholarship and communication about textiles. Chinese Silks, edited by Dieter Kuhn, Chinese edition edited by Zhao Feng. Foreword by James C.Y. Watt. Contributions by Chen Juanjuan, Huang Nengfu, Dieter Kuhn, Li Wenying, Peng Hao, and Zhao Feng. Translations by David Andrew Knight, Craig Shaw, and Nicholas Morrow Williams. Yale University Press (New Haven and London) and Foreign Languages Press (Beijing). November 15, 2013, New York: Experience a cutting-edge exhibition with the curators who produced it. Bringing together the expertise of curators across eight departments, the MMA has created what is sure to be a seminal study on the travel of textile patterns, designs and techniques around the globe. Visit the MMA’s Antonio Ratti Textile Center to examine pieces from the collection that are not on view to the public. View additional textiles that were considered for the exhibition and discuss notable examples of weaving, dyeing and embellishment. Learn More Apply Here TSA is pleased to announce a scholarship for two Textiles Close Up programs: Printed Textiles at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, on October 25, 2013 and Inside Interwoven Globe at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York on November 15, 2013. One scholarship, covering the cost of registration, will be awarded for each program to a TSA member who would benefit professionally from such an experience. The recipient will be asked to write a short article reporting on the highlights of the study tour for TSA publication. MFA in Boston applications are due by Sept 27, 2013 and will be announced by Oct 4, 2013. MMA in New York applications are due Oct 18 and will be announced by Oct 25.
