#News and #video: Into the Box: In the #California desert at the #USArmys National Training Center/Fort Irwin: All seemed quiet a few hours after a make-shift #mortar attack from the opposing force, but the calm quickly dissipated when a small team of opposition fighters walked into the forward operating base nearly unnoticed and started shooting. The “attack” occurred only several hours after I’d linked up the morning of Aug. 12 with the #USArmy #Soldiers of the 1st Armor Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division “in the box” at the #Army’s #NationalTrainingCenter at Fort Irwin, Calif. The scene is much different than the garrison life Soldiers experience back at #3rdInfantryDivision and #FortStewart in Coastal Georgia. Greenish shrubbery dots the otherwise bare, brown earth at the base of the mountains in the #MojaveDesert. Several tents and vehicle make up the forward operating base the 1st Brigade’s headquarters element is currently calling home.
