News in brief: Yusuf Al Siddique Suratman, 29, claimed trial before magistrate Edward Paul for allegedly posting an image and statement on March 6-7 this year on the blog site, Milo Suam. The blogpost entitled ‘Maklumat sulit: Pendatang asing bakal cetus huru hara di Sabah?’ (Confidential information: Foreigners to cause chaos in Sabah?) alleged that some 1,400 foreigners will cause chaos in Sabah, with an image of a supposed document from the police. ********************************************** DAP leaders Ong Kiang Ming, Zairil Khir Johari and Julian Tan Kok Ping called for Najib to immediately ask for the resignation of the Human Resources minister Richard Riot, and the Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) Dr Ewon Ebin. According to Ong, Ewon’s alma maters, the Golden State University in Wyoming and the Commonwealth Open University in the British Virgin Islands, are listed as ‘unauthorised schools and invalid degrees’ by the Oregon and Maine state governments. Meanwhile, Ong, who is Serdang MP and DAP election strategist, said he was unable to find any website belonging to the Chartered Institute of Business Administration, which is where Riot received his Bachelor of Administration. Riot also has a Masters in Business Administration from Preston University – a well-known bogus university, according to media reports. ******************************************* It must have been brought to the notice of the Prime Minister that the conduct of the IGP was seriously in question with the case of Kugan pending but yet the Prime Minister felt it fit for him to be appointed as IGP. Now the Prime Minister is highly embarrassed and he has only himself to blame for not realising the obvious, which is that the court could well find against Khalid in the case, which it ultimately did. Now we have the Home Minister in a somewhat similar situation. Does the Prime Minister not understand that there is a conflict as the Home Minister is in charge of the police and that he may be found liable for acts which may warrant police action? How does the Prime Minister talk of greater governance and transparency with appointments like these? ******************************************* CANBERRA: Australia’s former leader Kevin Rudd toppled Julia Gillard to return as prime minister today, reclaiming the job on his third attempt and with elections less than three months away. The vote of Labor Party lawmakers followed months of destabilizing leadership speculation, fuelled by opinion polls pointing to an election wipeout for Labor against the Conservative Opposition headed by Tony Abbott. ******************************************* The looming by-election for the Kuala Besut state seat in Terengganu is "critical" for Pakatan Rakyat, Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim said today. ****************************************** Indonesian authorities have arrested 10 people for allegedly starting fores fires to make way for their plantations on Sumatra island, police said today.
