News via GMA News Pinay in UAE resists rape try, suspect hauled to court July 8, 2014 A Filipina secretary in the United Arab Emirates managed to fight off an alleged attempt by a Pakistani to rape her last May, and has hauled him to court. The Pakistani on Monday faced the Dubai Court of First Instance, where he denied trying to assault the Filipina, UAE news site Gulf News reported Monday night. “I did not touch her or beat her,” the report quoted the Pakistani, who entered a not guilty plea, as saying. When presiding judge Ezzat Abdul Lat asked the Pakistani why he molested the Filipina, he reportedly replied, I did not touch her. I did not do anything.” A ruling will be heard on July 21. But the Filipina, 40, said she fought off the Pakistani, 22, when he allegedly sneaked behind her desk and groped her, pulled her down to the floor, and molested her. “I shouted and cried loudly for help… but nobody heard me. He removed my headscarf and then groped me. He punched me and beat me so brutally… when he was about to remove my dress, I inflicted pain on him, the Filipina narrated. When he felt the severe pain, he let go of me and stormed out of the office,” she told prosecutors. “I have suffered a psychological and emotional breakdown because of what happened. I am afraid of strangers who enter my office. I cannot sleep properly because of nightmares,” she added. Prosecutors claimed the suspect forced himself on the Filipina inside the company’s premises in Al Quoz. They said at that time the secretary was alone at her desk. On the other hand, the Filipina told prosecutors she told the defendant several times to leave the office. Investigation also showed two pedestrians saw the Filipina shouting and crying outside the office, and chased the defendant and caught him. A policeman testified that during questioning, the defendant admitted he walked into the office to ask for directions to a nearby mall. He also claimed that he is poor and destitute,” the policeman added. —Joel Locsin/KBK, GMA News MC
